Brooch: The Moment of Death, 72"x42", Acrylic/mixed on Canvas, 2011
GlitterKids and the Life and Death of Brooches
These five paintings were created using acrylic and some mixed media. In them, I have attempted to achieve an otherworldly sense of mischief, depicting gangs of roving spirits misbehaving. I think of them as laughing at death, playing with everything that strikes terror into hearts. They are not mean-spirited; they just delight in the folly and chance of life and after-life.
The subject matter is the life of jewelry, like brooches, intimate objects that carry the wearer’s emotional history. When the brooch is no longer worn, does it die? Do the wearer’s vibrations arise from the jewelry to find a home in the spirit world?
